Paul Garcia wrestles with complicated academic schedule in Running Start
Paul Garcia is a senior at Steilacoom High School, sophomore at Pierce College, and is currently enrolled in the Running Start Program. He’s in the process of graduating high school and getting his associates degree. Garcia has should have 75 credits by the time he graduates this year.
Garcia is on the Steilacoom High School wrestling team and is fighting through tournament’s to make it to state. Paul took 6th place Sub-Regional’s and advances on to Regional’s that will take place on February 18th. His girlfriend Darcie Olive is always there to support him along with his mom, older brother’s, and sister Veronica Garcia, treasurer for Student Programs at Pierce College.
Paul’s wrestled since 8th grade and was apart of the Tacoma Baptist wrestling team for 2 years. He then switched schools to Steilacoom and joined their wrestling program in 2009. Paul’s in the 152 lb. weight class and wrestles some pretty stocky and strong competitors. Generally, those wrestlers take home the trophy but one advantage Paul has on them is his flexibility and heart for the sport. Win or lose, Paul never quits. Many times wrestlers are put to their backs and get pinned with out putting up a fight. Paul on the other hand, leaves his opponent with a dose of lowered confidence.
