“Crush the Empire.” Yes, for all you Star Wars lovers out there this is indeed a reference. “Crush the Empire” is a 3-piece band from a generation that grew in that era we love to call the 90’s.
Although the band is a new project only just a few months, old members aren’t new to the music scene at all. Vocalist Matt Jahns and bassist Aaron Sweet have been playing music together since age 14 and have been in various music projects, drummer Colten Kock also has a history of playing with vocalist Matt. These veterans are bringing a genre of music that was loved by us 90’s kids back into the scene. Their sounds are a cross between bands like Jimmy Eat World and Lit.
They already have two songs uploaded to their page on Reverbnation as well as their Facebook. The songs that are up and ready for listening have a pop rock sound that’ll make you want to turn that volume up, sing along and nod your head while driving in the car.
Though the pop sound is for listening pleasure, “Crush the Empire” also has songs that have an edgy sound to them. The band is currently working on their album hoping to have it drop sometime in November.
The album is called “The Escape Plan” and it’s about living the day-to-day life everyone is accustomed to. Getting up every morning, going to work, school, and paying bills. The album also focuses on being caught up in a life that becomes so dreadful and redundant to people, breaking free from all of it, and living life to the fullest.
Listening to “Wondering Why,” is a great example of the philosophy of these three musicians. Caught in a cycle of living a life of working day in and day out for a future that is so far off. They just wish they could pick up, leave town and enjoy their life before times up.
Along with their album coming out next month, there working on a date for a CD release show. It’s planned to be a fun event full of music by a DJ from Portland, while “Crush the Empire” plays headline. They may also have video games hooked up during the show for people to play among other entertainment.
“Crush the Empire” is kind of under the radar at the moment, but they love playing small shows and even house parties. So if you listen to their music and find you’d like them to play a show, there game to play. So if you’re feeling the need to reminiscence over your child hood musical days and need your 90’s fix CTR is the way to do it!
