“Real Steel” captures a futuristic look at robot fighting, from the underground to the professional. Without a deep story line, this movie delivers everything you would expect it to, as long as all you expect are robots beating each other to scrap metal.
The story follows Charlie Kenton (Hugh Jackman) as he deals with a divorce and financial problems, while still pursuing his dream of being a robot fighter. Kenton is rather rude and loud with his son Max Kenton (Dakota Goyo), but they are determined to work together.
“Real Steal” is a somewhat heart-warming story of the love between a son, father, and robot, as they work together to defy the odds. Don’t expect this movie to pop out with amazing plot, because realistically there is 10 minutes of a story line in a movie filled with 2 hours of purely robot fighting.
The movie had great graphics that didn’t appear all to be computer generated, and hopefully we can look forward to many of the software advances invented for the films sake. The plot line was strangely similar to any boxing movie only instead of humans it was robots.
Aside from the lack of plot, the movie had great special effects, as well as a great cast who seemed very dedicated to their roles. Max Kenton (Goyo) had to take on both the role of adult and child and he managed to do it wonderfully while still maintaining his ‘little kid charm’.
All in all this movie was good, as long as you aren’t expecting much more than robots beating each other into piles of broken metal.
The movie also echoed themes of transformers as well the game “rock em’ sock em’ robots”, but this is better then the romantic comedies that have been ever present in the movie theaters.
“Real Steal” is a great action movie full of stunning graphics and some funny moments, but the ending isn’t anything special and it was very predictable.
