The media is bombarding the world with their crusade of converting the Earth to ‘Go Green.’
We’ve seen it change from simple ‘Please Recycle’ signs to the smart cars that we see puttering about the busy streets today.
While many organizations and groups across the globe are waving the banner of going green with pride, however many are still unconvinced. Perhaps the constant pounding of the green message has been so dominant in our culture that we simply tune it out?
It’s becoming increasingly apparent, as the world grows smaller that the lives of every person on the earth not only entwine together, but also march alongside the lives of the plants, animals and ecosystems.
Every little thing we do will impact the planet in one form of another, be it positive or negative. There is good news, however and that is individualism. The one individual can posses the power to impact the planet in a purely positive way through his or her own positive actions and choices.
There are the basic changes that could be made, such as recycling, taking shorter showers and turning off all unused lights and electronics. There are also more ad- vanced, and quite simple, ways to change for a greener world.
If often on the go, toting around a water bottle, it would be helpful to switch it to a reusable aluminum water bottle. This will cut down container waste, which his been building higher by the year. Using a filter on your tap to purify water will also help cut down water bottle spending, and often wasting.
Instead of tossing away old phones and other electronics, they should be recycled. Electronic waste contains mercury and other toxins that are creating further environmental problems by being sent to rot in landfills.
Keeping your tires inflated at all times will also be beneficial, as it will allow vehicles to run longer on less gas.
However going green doesn’t always keep strictly to just cutting down water and energy usage, it can also go down to personal issues such as improving health by eating local, organic food.
The options and opportunities for switching to a greener and more envi- ronmentally friendly lifestyle are everywhere, waiting to be taken. Just as in voting, one individual can make a change that will in turn change the entire world. If the choices are positive, then the change will be equally as positive.
