The men’s baseball team has had an impressive season, ending with a record of 22-2 in their league season.
This made them the western region champions.
With the talented coaching staff and the very talented team, whose skills ranged from consistent hitting and catching, the season went very well.
The dynamic duo of Desmond Santos, shortstop, and Josh Potter on first base consistently worked together to make fast plays to get runners out before they even hit first.
Potter proved to be a versatile player by hitting, playing first and pitching all in the same game when needed.
Jacob Phillips also proved to have a wide variety of baseball skills. From being seen on third, in the out field, on the pitchers mound, a few times on first base, hitting and even a fill in catcher once when Michael Sherwin got injured.
Phillips was also heard giving various positive comments to his teammates.
The team next year will have some big spots to fill when they lose these two talented players to four-year teams.
This season also made for some comebacks as Elliot Morris returned to the field after having Tommy John’s surgery on his elbow.
The men, plowed over their competition, although with some very close games, and only defeated twice by Lower Columbia.
The men also had some exciting last minute wins where one hit put them up by one run and allowed them to win the game.
“The team has accomplished great things over the past two years. We have great chemistry and that’s a huge part of our success,” explained Brian Corliss, sophomore second baseman.
The team worked to push each other and create the best possible out come for the season.
Even with two losses the team worked to not make the same mistakes again in the second game of the day.
The Raider team is now moving on to the NWACC tournaments an will be playing against Bellevue on May 24.
This year the team has managed to make this the best season that the school has played in the past two years, improving by a total of five wins since last year.
The team has many players looking at returning next year, so one can be hopeful that the team will continue their winning streak into next year.
