Loot Crate, a self proclaimed Monthly Geek and Gamer Subscription Box, is a fairly new business that continues to gain more and more success as the months go by. It allows customers to sign up for either a monthly subscription or a bundle, and each month a themed mystery gift box is shipped out to subscribers.
Past months have featured themes such as “Survive”, “Equip”, and “Celebrate” and this month’s theme is “Launch” and is space focused. Each month’s box comes with 4-6 items that are hand picked to match the month’s theme.
Previous items have included The Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks, Figurines from various shows such as Futurama and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and T-shirts. With the start of 2014, Loot Crate has now begun to include a collectible badge with each month’s box.
The monthly subscription price is $13.37 with $6 shipping, totaling to $19.37. They also offer two bundle options alongside that. The first bundle option is a 3-month plan at $12.37 with $6 shipping, and totals to $55.11. The last one is a 6-month bundle at $11.67 with the standard $6 shipping & handling, totaling at $105.99.
While it might look like a risk to sign up for a service where customers don’t know exactly what they’re getting, Loot Crate allows them to cancel at any time without a cancellation fee. It’s also important to look for discount codes when signing up because there is usually a code put out each month that can take 10% off during purchase.
They also hand out one “Mega Crate” each month. The Mega Crate is giving out randomly to one subscriber, and is valued at over $250. It features larger gifts and some of the past Mega Crate gifts have included a Handheld Portal Gun Replica and Half Life 2 Gravity Gun, Star Wars Lego set, and a Dragon Ball Z “Saiyan Scouter.”
In the short time that Loot Crate has been in operation, it has received critical acclaim. Popular technology news sites such as Geek, Wired, and Curse. Inc. have all given Loot Crate high praise, as well as thousands of subscriber reviews. If you’re into Geek and Gaming culture and enjoy receiving gifts in the mail, Loot crate is a service you will enjoy.
