Synthesia is a software program designed to help people learn how to play piano via their computer, allowing users to upload files to learn any song they like. This is the intended purpose. On youtube, you can find something very different.
By uploading MIDI files to Synthesia, it is possible to have the computer play fantastically difficult songs impossible for one person to play with just two hands. This song, “UN Owen Was Her,” more popularly known as the Death Waltz by John Stump, was written for the purpose of being as complicated as possible. The program allows the user to see the notes visually like a game of “Guitar Hero” and the complicated notes are impressively intricate.
This song, a remix of Flowering Night from the 9th “Touhou” game, is called Night of Nights. Night of Nights itself has a dozen different remixes, this video playing one of them.
Honestly, I love just watching the notes cascade around. These songs are so impossible with human hands its a bit comedic.
This song, Necrofantasia by a composer known as ZUN, has a very classic japanese RPG feel to it. This version is relatively simple compared to some remixes that have as many as 9.8 million notes.
These song files are incredibly hard for computers to process, so there are people that upgrade computers with the intention of playing the most complicated songs.
