Open mic events are something everyone can enjoy. This event came to Campus on Nov. 20 where snacks and hot chocolate sat laid out. This got students socializing. Not long after when students were sitting down and socializing.
The hum was broken by the voice of the ASPCFS Student Relations Senator, Melissa Stitt-Dastous. Announcing the open mic was going to begin. The event started off Storm Tucker who played guitar. Picking a few songs the scene transitioned to two beat boxers. This progressed into a beat box duo Mathew Lambersten, a Pre-Nursing student and Hunter Sargent, a Mathematics student.
Silence was clear from the crowd as the two teamed up remixing and including dubstep kind of beats.
Algebriac Equation with George followed a duet from student government; many students enjoyed the event General Studies student, Jessica Pendleton said, “I think it’s cool. The mood is fun.”
One of the performers Music Theater Major, Dessa Chalfant said “I have a story to tell, my poetry has a story and it’s how I express my story.” She stood in front of the crowd telling excerpts from her poetry.
The afternoon was finished by a local band of former and current Pierce College students. Kashing in Karma played several cover songs and a few of their own, such as Jigsaw Road.
It was made evident by many students that attended that they want more events like this and student government agrees. Their hope is to have more events in the future.
