Jessica Gonzalez, Staff Writer

The Grand Cinema theater, located in downtown Tacoma, is celebrating the start of the new school year by offering discounted tickets to students and teachers for the month of September.

The Grand Cinema, a lively theater for the more agile mind, selects independent and acclaimed films for regular viewing and has themed films throughout the month. Tuesdays highlight a thought provoking film with a matinee and evening showing. Every third Wednesday of the month, the theater plays a classic film and every third Saturday of the month, they show a free family film on a first-come first-serve basis.

This month, come see movies from an array of genres, like “Jimmy’s Hall”, a drama set in 1921 amidst an Irish civil war, or “Grandma”, a comedy where a grandmother (Lily Tomlin) and granddaughter go on an adventure to get some swiftly needed cash.

Tickets for all screenings are reduced to $5.50 with a school ID and must be purchased directly from the box office. Regularly priced tickets range from $8 to $10 with special discounts offered for students, senior citizens, and armed forces members.

A list of screenings can be found at www.GrandCinema.com. The Grand is located at 606 S. Fawcett Ave in Tacoma.
