“This job helped me grow so much. I learned how to voice my opinions, go out of my comfort zone and connect with my community.”
Grace Corralas, Graphic Designer
“As a running start student, it is extremely easy to isolate ourselves and not fully get involved in college life, being a part of Student Media allowed me to not only be involved in the events themselves but also get other students involved.” Kyla Reese, Social Media Coordinator
“My biggest accomplishment at Pierce over the last two years has been my GPA. I had such a difficult time in high school and that kept me from going to college for decades. When I finally got the courage to try again, I was a different person. Over the years I have learned that I am different, and I need to study and learn in a way that makes sense to me. I advocated for myself and applied new concepts. In June I’ll be graduating summa cum laude.”
Treva Adkins, Editor in Chief, Puyallup
“This job helped me grow immensely. It boosted my confidence in a workplace setting and helped me realize my strengths and weaknesses as well. Advice? For my position as Editor-in-Chief, you have to be friendly above all else. Establishing connections with your fellow coworkers helps you keep things on track for success. My advice? Relax! I’ve overworked myself in this job on my own volition and it is not pretty. Take it slow and realize your studies come first.”
Dennis Fraire, Editor in Chief, Fort Steilacoom
“Working for OSL has definitely improved my communication and teamwork skills. Especially working with deadlines and last second tasks. Above all have fun and add personality to your graphics so the job doesn’t get stale.”
Jackson Park, Graphics Designer
“As an aspiring filmmaker, having a job in writing and photography for Student Media has allowed me to learn more about how to use the camera, as well as some journalism, which are useful skill sets not only in the filmmaking world, but in the real world as well. It’s also helped me to get myself out there, and honestly, I’ve met some of the most friendly and outgoing people here at my job.”

“So far, my biggest accomplishment is creating The Pinnacle Push, Student Media’s biweekly newsletter. It gives the Pierce community important updates, platforming Student Life events across all departments, together, and reminding students of deadlines for class registration/withdrawals at Pierce, scholarships, even other college applications. I believe that having this information all in one place is the most accessible way to get news to the community!”
