Styles are like a revolving door, always in motion. Trends emerge and fade away quickly.
However, they are never truly gone, often making a comeback, whether it’s in five or twenty years. Social media heavily influences what’s considered “in,” and when a style resurfaces, it’s often adapted to align with current trends.
Recently, the 2000’s trend of low waistlines has begun to appear in shopping malls and Y2K style is making a comeback.
Observing the fashion choices of students around Pierce College’s Puyallup campus, we encountered a diverse array of outfits, ranging from casual everyday sweat suits to sundresses and chic streetwear.
We asked each student to describe their style and received a variety of responses, from boho and artsy to casual and preppy.
Eden defines her style as casual and comfortable, often incorporating “interesting silhouettes” and “fun colors”.
Peter describes his style as “fun” and “experimental.”
In contrast, Grace, enjoys wearing “unpredictable” and “eclectic” looks.

1. One of the most popular latest trends is dressing according to your season, by finding the season that best complements your skin tone, hair color, and eye color, allowing you to wear colors that enhance your appearance.
2. Preppy Skirts! There are so many unique styles of skirts that fall under the preppy umbrella. They range from easy tennis skirts suitable for workouts to cute plaid mini skirts perfect for dressing up.
3. With the return of Y2K style, iconic low-waisted jeans and shorts are making a comeback. While brands aren’t exactly replicating the extremely low waist, they are adapting the trend to fit 2024 fashion.
4. Denim is definitely in! It seems like denim will never go out of fashion. Over the last few years, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the trend of athletes wearing comfortable clothes took over, commonly referred to as “athleisure”. One trend I’ve noticed making a comeback, particularly on social media platform TikTok, super-mini denim skirts.
5. According to Vogue.com, they believe that the trend of Capri leggings will be making a comeback. While this is a trend, I’m unsure if I’ll hop on board; however, Capri leggings can certainly look cute when styled appropriately.
