The majority of us need a job to make a living. What we don’t need however are people who take advantage of our helping hand in our working environment.
It seems to happen everyday. It’s as if people forget that we all share the same weight of the world one way or another and it doesn’t disappear once we clock in. Being in our working environment puts us at a vulnerable stance against our customers.
The characters are all too familiar. You have the sweet elderly that blindly insult you, the middle age who make it a point to let you know how unhappy they are with their youth escaping them, and the other people who can never get an answer that’s appealing to their standards.
A few ways to handle these issues would be to:
- Make an escape to the restroom like your bowels depended on it.
- Fall to your knees and pretend you can’t walk.
- Give them that response you’ve been storing in the back of your mind for quite some time now.
- Or remember that you’re getting paid for this and putting up with these characters is a part of your daily tasks.
Solutions vary but there has to be one that we’ve all been waiting for. Health benefits or being part of the Union will only act as an incentive for so long.
The first step to addressing a solution is figuring out the problem. What makes people act the way they do?
Whenever I’m working I always like to give people the benefit of the doubt because you never know what they are dealing with that day.
Ideally staying at home would be the best option for anyone that’s going through a hard time.
However, not everyone has enough time to set aside their errands to help themselves. Or say there is no hard time they’re going through. What’s the excuse then?
The answer that pops into my mind is the fact that some people enjoy knowing that they can talk to you in whatever tone of voice and disconcerting manner they wish.
Remember that flight attendant, Steven Slater, who finally had enough and said exactly what he had been waiting to say for who knows how long? After cussing out an airplane full of passengers and taking a ride down the inflatable emergency escape, he was arrested.
What happens when we reach that stage and get pushed over the edge? When we can no longer plaster a smile on our faces for all those customers that stomp on our patience, what to do then?
Maybe America can decide on a safety sentence to use when working that sums up, you’ve had enough, and after saying that phrase you can tag team a fellow employee with more will power to finish the task for you. That’s an idea, but not a likely one to follow through with.
What this comes down to is human beings being able to understand each other. Although, we’re sailing on a different path we’re pretty much all on the same boat. We all have problems to sort through everyday, and people to take care of. Sometimes taking care of ourselves is put on the bottom of the list. One way we can start to take care of ourselves is treating others with the care we wish to get from them.So next time you walk out that door take a few deep breaths and go out with a positive attitude to share with the world, and lets just hope everyone else is doing the same.
