As students walk the halls, they may notice the pinned-up posters around campus that show some gruesome depiction and the words “Math is not scary.” The intent to grab the attention of passersby was so well executed that Pierce’s marketing and communications department brought home awards from the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations (NCMPR) District 7 Conference in Salem, Ore. in October.
NCMPR is an organization that represents Marketing and Public Relations professionals at the community and technical college level. As their mission statement says, “NCMPR provides professional development opportunities, advocates on behalf of the profession and the institutions it serves, and recognizes professional excellence.”
District 7 covers the region of Alaska, British Columbia Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, the Canadian provinces of Alberta, Saskatchewan and Yukon Territory. Pierce won gold in the categories of “Publication Series” for the “Math isn’t scary” posters and “Presentation Folder” and for the most recent orientation folders.
Pierce also won silver in “Logo Design” for their logo designed for the “Hounds on the Hill Charity Walk and Street Fair.” Bronze was awarded under the categories of “Specialty Advertising” and “Poster” for the Pierce College coffee sleeves and the Julian Bond Poster.
