It’s that time of year again; Student Government is changing seats. Candidates can sign up, students can get ready to vote and make a difference in the school. To throw your hat into the ring, you need three things. There’s the standard 2.5 GPA, two letters of recommendation, and most importantly, dedication; the candidate form asks for passion and determination over experience.
Every position will be open for election, from president to international ambassador. If anyone has thought about running, remember that there are a number of positions as well in Student Activities for the unsure or undecided.
In the position of president or vice president, there is an internal focus. These positions organize the rest and are the ones who aren’t only dedicated to what they do for the school, but also for their Student Government team.
There are also positions that lend an ear to the students, both domestic and international. These office holders are the deepest connection to the students themselves and have them in mind for everything they do.
The Student Government positions don’t end with clubs and student relations, there’s even a branch that deals with the administration. That means they act on behalf of the students when school administration is involved.
Every part of the Student Government is geared towards the students and runs off their support. Even the students who may not have the 2.5 GPA or letters of recommendation, those who may be too busy to hold office at the school may still help everyone out just by voting. The student government is the voice of the students, to reflect what the students want and keep them in mind when making decisions. The best way to help, if not by running yourself, is by voting. Give them the chance to reflect the student’s views, give them a few moments of your time and vote.
Students who want to run can turn their candidacy application in to Student Activities beside the lunchroom by 26th of April. After that, the campaign starts in earnest with an open forum on the 14th of May. When the candidates run, you can be sure the Pioneer Team will be right there with the updates.
