Crowded, stressful and the reason some students are late to class, the parking lot can be a nightmare.
Although it might seem like the parking has gotten more crowded since last quarter, campus safety says otherwise.
Even with all of the handicap, carpool and Early Childhood Education parking, the raw numbers say the school isn’t at its limits. Fall tends to be the quarter the parking lots are packed. The frustration at losing a spot or parking in overflow may not be due to too many students.
Aside from the obvious idea that there might be more cars than spaces, students are also struggling because of where the spots open up.
No one going to the Rainier building is going to want to park in the south overflow, after all. The crowding could also be attributed to the decline in night classes. While our school has the same attendance, there are more students during prime time.
The final problem is timing; the majority of students rushing to class at nine or ten am get to school at the same time. Sometimes the solution is as simple as leaving ten minutes early.
Though parking is a constant topic of debate, the school doesn’t appear to have the funds to add additional spots, nor does it have plans to rearrange the parking currently in place.
Settling for the parking space in the overflow or arriving earlier than usual might be the easiest way to stave off the frustrating task of endlessly circling the north parking lot.
