Higher level math tutors limited
They’re the unsung heroes of your tricky homework woes. These are the students who work in the tutoring center. In the tutoring center they can help you with anything from doctoring an essay to helping study for a pre-nursing exam.
With the new semester the tutoring team has had difficulties finding and hiring students who are experienced in higher level math courses. They are looking for people who can tutor in classes like Pre Calculus, Calculus, and Complex Variables.
While the tutoring center’s services are free to students, the tutors are not volunteers. Member of the tutoring center receive minimum wage for their hours and can even receive more for tutoring courses that are higher level. The Center is friendly and builds hours around your schedule to accommodate your classes.
Tutoring isn’t only a benefit to the tutors because of its pay, but also “It helps you reach a level of higher understanding, when you can comprehend the material and then teach it to someone else.” Says Jamie Lopez, (a tutor for Biology and Statistics.) The goal of the tutoring center is not just to re teach a lesson, but rather to find an alternative way to communicate the information back to the student.
Many Course instructors offer their students extra credit for taking time to work on their assignments in the tutoring center. “It’s very important to listen to their needs,” said Grace Miller (A tutor in English, Reading Comprehension, and History.) Some even offer additional workshops for their classes in the tutoring center for struggling students.
The tutoring center is on the fifth floor in the Cascade building. Their office hours are Monday –Thursday 8 am to 4 pm and outside office hours can be arranged with your tutor if needed.
