Young women of this generation are generally not too concerned with their health other than their weight. They tend to think with the mindset that because they are young that breast cancer couldn’t possibly happen to them at this age. But the age of women who are at high risk for breast cancer is hitting closer to home. Women in their mid twenties are finding that they have breast cancer.
How can this be? Scientist are not really sure why it is becoming increasingly evident in young women, but they know that it is not detected earlier because younger women don’t have the option of getting screened until after they’ve had children.
It would be beneficial to women everywhere if the healthcare system provided prevention breast exams that included Ultra sounds that can detect potentially cancerous masses in denser breasts of young women.
Sometimes the problem is preventable and the mass can be removed before it is even cancerous. According to Medicine.net 60% of women between the ages 30-50 have Fibroid masses in their breast. Fibroid masses are benign tumors that fluctuate based on hormones, but if not treated can effect the health of the breast. Often women find them in during their menstrual cycle due to the hormonal changes in breast. To check for these doctors run an Ultra sound of the breast and then treat through surgical removal of the mass. Breast cancer doesn’t have to be an illness that women wait to find, there are proactive measures women can take for their health.
