The last home game for the Raider’s women’s and men’s Basketball team of the season on Feb. 19 was a victory to both teams.
The women’s team was first to go up against the Chokers, and beat them 80-54. The lady Raiders remained ahead throughout the whole game never losing grip on their victory. The night was not only the last home game of the season, but it was also sophomore night for our Raiders.
The two Raiders from the women’s team that were celebrated were Mackenzie Lanacaster (5’10 – Rogers HS) and point guard Alyssa Simonson (5’6 – Kentlake HS). Simonson was second in the NWAACC in steals last season (109) and sixth in the conference in assists (4.3 per game).
Lancaster led the Raiders in rebounding last season, with 6.5 boards per game. Both Lady Raiders did just as well this season, showing leadership on and off the court. The Men’s team beat the Chokers 116-88, such a bad beating that the Gray Harbor spirit squad left the game after halftime.
Paul Loranger (6,10 Tahoma HS) ended the game with 2 dunks in a row. Talk about going out with a bang. The men’s sophomores that were celebrated were the following: Gary Jacobs (6,3 Sierra Vista), Devin Matthews (6’3 Durango), Isaac Barsh (6’5 Lincoln), Chris Barker (6’2 Eagle River), Mark Royster (5’9 Dade Christian),and David Jeffries (6’2 Legacy).
All of the returning sophomores and new sophomore players played a key role in the success of this year’s team, and they will be going to be able to play one more time at the NWASC in 2 weeks.
