The 3-time defending Western Division Champs may get their very own baseball stadium in the near future.
You read that correctly. Our very own Raider Baseball team has won the Western Division three times in a row and is pursuing the division title for a fourth straight time.
The Raiders won the 2012 Championship tournament and followed it up by coming in second place in 2013.
Yet with all this success, the Raiders have not had a home field to play on in over 20 years.
Recently, a proposal was brought before the S&A Budget Committee to build a batting facility for the team. During the approval process, however, a new proposal was initiated.
This proposal had much greater vision: A home field for the Pierce Raiders baseball team. This would include a batting facility as well. “We are grateful that the District Services & Activities Budget Committee supported funding the development of an indoor hitting facility for our baseball and softball teams. Â And, we’re very excited that their support has led to the current broader discussion about a potential multi-sport field complex. Â An on-campus field facility, that could house our intercollegiate field sports, and provide an outdoor recreation facility for our general student body, would be a tremendous asset for the District.” said Duncan Stevenson, Director of District Athletics.
A feasibility survey was approved by the S&A Budget Committee. The survey was directed by MSGS Architects and the proposed field project will be brought before the S&A Budget Committee this spring.
The field and batting facilities are going through a lengthy approval process because the facilities will require a large amount of funding.
If approved, the field will also be rentable to local youth groups, and the like. The batting facilities would be open to use for Pierce students as well, so long as it does not interfere with the practice or game schedule of the team.
