Why we love Kinsey

July 7, 2026
After Marty Lobdell stopped writing the “Sex Talk” column last year, The Pioneer’s staff was faced with a question: what should we do now?
Sex education is something that isn’t always offered enough, or there might be questions people have that weren’t accurately addressed in high school education, due to the fact that sex education is not regulated.
At The Pioneer, we are dedicated to providing real information to our readers, on a variety of subjects. So, cutting out sex was never a viable option.
The Pioneer ran the Kinsey Confidential at one point, but got rid of it when people were complaining that it was too graphic; that they couldn’t take it home because their kids might read it.
Because The Pioneer is a college publication, it makes sense that we would run adult content in our newspaper. We also understand that we have a young group of running start students who attend our college, but we would like to make as much knowledge available to them as possible, about exploring their sexuality. Adults talk about sex, and if we purposely aren’t covering sex, what does that say about us?
The information in Kinsey Confidential is real and uncensored, which is one of the reasons The Pioneer’s staff has chosen to run it; why we love it. It’s much more graphic than “Sex Talk” was, but it gives real answers to real questions that, odds are, many people are wondering about.
Because The Pioneer is bi-weekly and Kinsey Confidential is weekly, only half of the posts are actually printed. However, the other half can be found at pcdpinnacle.com.
If you have any questions or comments on our choice to run the Kinsey Confidential, feel free to email [email protected] or [email protected].
