Games; everyone loves to play games and recently GEEC has started implementing a team system. Many wondered how they would use this mechanic and GEEC answered with Classcraft.
Classcraft is a teaching aid to help teachers encourage students do well in class. The founder and head of Gamers Enjoying Eachothers Company or GEEC, Trent Botelho, saw this and thought, “This could be used in the club to bring in members and get members to keep showing up to meetings”. After contacting Classcraft he was given an okay and he made an account.
How it will work is he creates a player for each member. If the players do well, bring in games or consoles they earn exp which Botehlo manages. They can learn new powers that will have effects in game situations. One example was if they were doing bad they can activate a certain power to switch a bad player for a stronger player.
Players can also lose points. Many can lose points for disrupting the game or other things. “I don’t think anyone is going to end up losing points, but I decided to have it in to prevent unsportsmanlike conduct,” said Botehlo.
There are four teams Hardcores, Pros, Specialist and Experts. These have no bearing on the team’s skill and it’s just a team name. Players can get armor, pets and other things. These kinds of things are purely aesthetic assured Botehlo. There is also a forum for members to talk and set things up.
For this he has decided to do special games to take advantage of the Classcraft system. One of which was going to be Minecraft, Pokemon tournament and more. An example for Minecraft is they build certain style of house in a certain amount of time.
Every GEEC club session they can earn points after a certain time. Teams can battle each other in random games and at the end of the quarter they can earn prizes. These prizes are a surprise until later when they will be given out. Also any GEEC sponsored event members can use their Classcraft powers at.
They recently started this and though it’s still in the early stages it seems to be going well. “Last weekend, based on that one meeting it’s going well. We are still testing the waters to see how it goes, but right now it shows a lot of promise,” Botelho said.
