While Friday the 13 can be seen as demonic and eerie time for superstitious people, it is also a time for thrill seekers alike to get their kicks off of this second most ghoulish day of the year. Consequently this fad of intermingled fear and luck on Friday the 13 has lured many wandering souls into the shops of tattoo parlors.

“All-Star Tattoo” on sixth avenue is a parlor that runs the infamous Friday the 13 $13 tattoo specials (with a customary $7 tip). While other shops and parlors do not run this special, business owner Ryan Beauchamp said, “Its not about giving people a cheap tattoo, or making money fast. It’s about giving someone who may not want to get a big tattoo, a good first experience.”

There is an intimidating stereotype of those who tattoo and those who get tattoos, commonly characterized by the prior patrons of early tattooing such as sailors and prostitutes.

Over the years tattooing has become more widespread and socially acceptable. From people wanting to get a trinket tattoo, to a whole piece, “You’ll see people come in here who have high position jobs wanting to get a tattoo” said Beauchamp.

The shop also does differently themed $13 tattoos for each month that has a Friday the 13 in it, one year they did a summer cook out theme with hotdogs, the boner ghosts, and flowers. The staff also goes all out in dressing up for the occasion.

The hours for the $13 tattoo specials are from about 12 pm afternoon time, to whenever the shop feels like closing. The tattooist and piercers of “All-Star Tattoo” want people to know they don’t do custom designs on the 13th, there’s a sheet of roughly 20 tattoos that you can choose from that will be tattooed. The piercing choices are also non negotiable, unless prior arranged with the body piercer.

“All-Star Tattoo” offers safe and sterile tattoos and piercings for those who are veterans of tattoos and those who are new to the tattooing experience. So if you had the itch to get a tattoo the February’s Friday the 13 might be the time for you.
