The end of  2014 marks a fresh start for our Pierce Raider sport teams. Looking back over 2014’s high and low marks, Pierce College’s Raider Sports made numerous impressions on students and faculty. The men and women of Raider’s basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball and soccer teams fought hard to accomplish their goals of winning.

The 2013-2014 Raider Men’s Basketball team started the season strong with an 83-66 win against the Olympic Rangers and a 97-84 win against Shoreline. Through out the season the Raider Men Basketball team played strong, dominating school after school. They qualified for the NWAACC Championships for the second year in a row.

Defeating the Edmonds Tritons, the Raider Men Basketball team advanced to the NWAACC semi-finals where a win against Highline Thunderbirds sent them to play the Portland Panthers. The Raiders Men Basketball team finished 8th place in the NWAACC Championships.

Raider Women’s Basketball Team proved time after time that hard work and teamwork is what matters. Throughout a season of victories and defeats the Women’s Basketball team finished strong with a winning streak against the South Puget Sound Clippers, Green River Gators, and then the Lower Columbia Red Devils. Raiders Women’s Basketball also proved to be triumphant over long time rival team, Tacoma Titans, winning with a close score of 75-66.

Pierce Raiders Baseball completely tore up the field in 2014. With an unbelievable winning streak they managed to bat themselves into gaining the 4th annual West Division Title or Pierce College.

A match with TCC’s identical 19-2 record, the Raiders beat TCC with an 11-3 score and gained the Division Title. The win sent the team into the NWAACC Championship where they took 5th place.

Women’s Softball had a great year as well. With numerous wins the ladies proved themselves as an effective team. The Raiders won a total of 24 games out of 43. After an impressive mid-April winning streak the ladies still didn’t manage to win a title in the NWAACC Championship.

Raider’s Volleyball team played beautifully with an overall score of 20 wins and 17 losses. Raiders finished in 4th place in the Crossover Tournament and were looking to make a return trip to the NWAACC Championships.

Raider Men Soccer played their season decently with a tie score in two games. The Men’s Soccer won a total of 5 games and trucked around a heavy number of ten losses. Unfortunately a loss at regional playoffs didn’t guarantee them a spot in the NWAACC Championships.

Two beloved mentors departed from their coaching positions in 2014. Long time softball coach, Keilani Cruz left the Raider Softball team to become the graduate assistant softball coach at Central Washington University. Doug Carlson also stepped down from title ‘Raider’s Head Volleyball Coach’ to spend more time with his family.

Both Coaches are greatly missed by players, but anticipation for the 2015’s promising year keeps spirits strong.
