Bullying on campus
July 7, 2026
Bullying is a form of aggressive behavior in which someone intentionally and repeatedly causes another person injury or discomfort. Bullying can take the form of physical contact, words or more subtle actions. The bullied individual typically has trouble defending him or herself and does nothing to “cause” the bullying.
On April 21, 2015, See Something Say Something; A Presentation on Bullying was held at the Pierce College Fort Steilacoom HEC building. Cametures Parker, the guest speaker and head organizer of this program, visits many schools around the nation raising awareness of bullying. Having been bullied as a child at school, she felt the need to raise awareness in this matter because she doesn’t want other young people going through what she went through.
How far does an act go to be considered bullying? During the guest speaker’s interaction with the audience, some people said that an act should be done in person to be considered bullying. This opened up a discussion about cyber bullying, which is not done while in physical contact. Cyber-bullying could be limited to posting rumors or gossiping about a person on the Internet bringing about hatred in others’ minds; or it may go to the extent of personally identifying victims and publishing materials severely defaming and humiliating them. With increasing use of these technologies, cyber bullying has become increasingly common, especially among teenagers.
Cameratures Parker taught that we have many ways to end bullying, such as utilizing school counselors, and more importantly, saying something if you see something.
