PCAD allows for second chances
July 7, 2026
The implementation of PCAD at Pierce is a step in the right direction for American education.
For those who didn’t have the chance to gain a full high school education, getting that later in life is incredibly challenging, especially since 2014 when Pearson View, a private company, acquired the rights to GED tests.
Now taking a GED test costs a sizable amount of money, paid electronically, and is completed via the internet, something many of lower income people in need of an education to gain access to higher income would need.
The opportunity for anyone to get an education is supposed to be a key part of the “American Dream,” but private corporations keep finding ways to invade the education system and, rather than educating people who need it, are more interested in turning a profit.
SATs, advanced placement tests, textbooks – all are created, run, and owned by private companies. These are things every student should have access to, that are required, but cost exorbitant amounts of money.
Education, especially high school education, should be something everyone has access to, no matter the age or income level. It’s through education that we grow and thrive and create new ideas that prevents the stagnation of industries and arts.
