Valentine’s Day Fever

July 7, 2026

Valentine’s Day is around the corner and people are hunting for the perfect gifts or dates.

Valentine’s Day is a day supposedly dedicated to the people we love and the people we care about. But, why is there only one day dedicated to this?

I am not completely opposed to Valentine’s Day, nor am I nearly as bitter as this piece might make me seem.

But, just because there is only one day in the calendar year that is specifically assigned to the expressions and displays of love and affection does not mean it is an excuse to bury and withhold one’s feelings and devotion during the other 364 days in the year.

The people who really profit every Valentine’s Day are the greeting card companies, flower delivery companies, chocolate manufacturers and Tiffany & Co. It’s not called a hallmark holiday for no reason.

The expectations that Valentine’s Day brings also sets anyone up for some degree of disappointment. Bring someone flowers on any other day of the year and it is a sweet and thoughtful gesture. Bring someone flowers on Valentine’s Day and you’ve essentially  done what was expected.

The concept of branding a day for a specific purpose is not flawed, but every day should be a day to show those around you that you care.

Also, people may say that love is in the air around this time of year, but Times did a study and found that Christmas Eve is the most popular baby conception date while Valentine’s Day is only number 236 on the list.

Valentine’s Day is great, but we should always show people we care.

Cheers. Happy Valentine’s Day and happy Galentine’s Day to my single ladies out there.
