Graduating students will be invited again this year to decorate their grad caps for commencement as part of the spring events hosted by the Office of Student Life.
OSL student leaders last year created a fun space with an ice cream social for graduates who wanted to decorate their grad caps and then wear their decorated caps during commencement.
It’s a day filled with joy and honor to celebrate all the graduates’ progress, which is significant to the campus community, said Lindsey Phernetton, student engagement manager for Activities Board and events. Plans for this year’s event have not been finalized, and details will be announced closer to the event.

In other spring quarter events, Raider Appreciation Day is one of the biggest events on both campuses. Students at last year’s RAD played inflatable basketball, rode the mechanical bull, enjoyed offerings at the food trucks, and shopped at local vendors’ booths. Pierce College-style Vibe bingo and a gaming truck also were available.
Clubs & Organizations Senator Sirain Muhammad described the event as perfect and magical.
“The final stretch of the academic year brings plenty of stress for both staff and students, and events such as our grad cap decorating and Raider Appreciation Day remind me why I love this work and why I’m so passionate about serving in community colleges,” said Phernetton.

In addition, the Office of Student Life members in collaboration with campus partners will host in June the fourth annual Lavender Graduation, a national celebration to highlight and honor the LGBTQ+ students. That student life works alongside collab and campus partition.
Another event during the spring quarter is Earth Day, a time to learn what can be done to clean up the planet. Fort Steilacoom leaders plan to clean up the lake near their school, as well as support activities at the Science Dome on campus. For the Puyallup campus, the Office of Student Life hosted an educational film dedicated to learning more about environmental practices.

Besides these activities, students can join recurring clubs, including the Idol club for students who appreciate both Japanese and Korean pop culture and the Engineering Club, which helps students dive deeper into learning about engineering.
